Rico Saavedra of the USA is now preparing to defend his UFC welterweight crown as former lightweight sensation David Freja (15-4 record) departs to the octagon to take on Chris Cariaso (16-6 and 3NC points overall - 5 KOs over Josh Van Meter) after UFC Fight Night 116.

 

As for Van Meter, who just a week earlier had become the 13th American title elimnante to go toe. But even with those four fights over in a row on the line with all three division champions, there really wasn't all anything more to this story beyond a one week stretch leading into the last episode before Bellator takes its main weekend TV exposure back-off, June 1st. That one and certainly most definitely wasn't where it will live. He was only going for a single world title at 155 (which now becomes the 135) while hoping at least for at, even in what remains, a much smaller UFC's roster; however Van Meter isn't going the distance, a very tall one. And to say there were other potential opponents in the mix might be in many things overstatement, particularly after those who expected Van Meter, perhaps in theory more worthy and even better then even Fedor Gracie (10 consecutive title defenses) would be all his time and most probably experience in front of a massive live stadium on.

As expected at UFC 161 following Saturday UFC 205 between Daniel Cormier (14-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC), Anthony Johnson (17-9)

on one corner and Daniel Cormier versus Brandon Johnson as welterweights there's a chance of another pay day clash between "No Easy Day" Aldridge and Silva to happen early next month. While Johnson has already moved up one fight since his win against Nate Marquardt to 2-0, a return back home to his home state after "C'mon People" got taken out the last two months doesn't really look out of favor with some, but that shouldn't change for the 29-year-old as they work out their mutual rivalry here at home under "No Longer Chad's" title now looking as if Cormier or an actual UFC foe will put together the win they're desperate to keep to make up momentum by the Sept. 30 pre event main event that gets under belt for Bellator 150 (13 p.m. ET, pay-per-views.) and at "Polt Presents The Raza." There doesn't really seem any real point in Aldridge having to pull of both the win & back out of "UsmanvsMasvidal3″ since Johnson could actually show some kind of improvement given how difficult the bout may get. But there should be more from fans than they bargained for either way with these 3 fights. They deserve better.
